Viagra helps in continuous flight

Mar.02, 2010

A well known preparation Viagra oral used for erectile dysfunction may be effective to overcome the consequence of a continuous flight.
Argentinean scientists carried out experiments on the hamsters and noticed that 50% of all hamsters restored their organism faster due to Viagra. The results of this investigation were published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
However, the scientists noticed that Viagra works probably in combination with phototherapy and time zone change only in one direction, in flight to the East. The cycle day-night regulates in mammals the biological clock, which during daylight hours gives a command to act, and at night to sleep.
The scientists from the National University of the Argentinean city Quilmes set forward the biological clocks of the hamsters six hours. They turned on and turned off the light in their cage six hours earlier than usually. Then they examined how the hamsters act in the their running wheel and analyzed how rapidly their biological clocks were adapted to the new time: usually the hamsters are very active during daylight hours and sleep at night.
Then the solution of Viagra was injected into some Hamsters in different doses. This research showed that those hamsters with Viagra (even those that was injected with a very small dose) were adopted to the new hours better and quicker than hamsters without Viagra.
Initially Viagra was created to treat a high blood pressure and angina. Afterwards, however, it was established that Viagra was effective for patients with erectile problems. The Argentinean scientists consider that Viagra works on the cyclic GMP that participates in regulation of the biological clocks. In the daytime the level of cGMP is higher than at night .Viagra works by inhibiting an enzyme called PDE5 (A phosphodiesterase type 5) that is responsible for the breakdown of cGMP molecule. Thus Viagra increases the amount of cGMP in the organism.
The scientists consider that different mechanisms may be involved in the slowing down and acceleration of the biological clock. This estimation may explain the circumstance that Viagra worked only when the light was turned off and turned on earlier. Viagra didn’t act when the biological clocks were set in the backward direction.
The pharmaceutical company Pfizer that manufactures Viagra underlines, that currently Viagra should be used only according to the indication of the drug’s leaflet.
