Tamsulosin is currently marketed under the brand name Flomax.
Generic Tamsulosin is selective alpha-adrenergic blocker used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia – one of the most common urological disease among men over 40 years of age.
Tamsulosin generic belongs to a group of medicines called alpha blockers. Action mechanism is associated with blocking alpha-1 receptors. Alpha-1 receptors are located in different organs and systems including blood vessels and prostate gland. By blocking Alpha-1 receptors tamsulosin helps to relax prostate gland muscles and bladder neck. This helps to relieve the symptoms of enlarge prostate.
The symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia include: frequent urination accompanied by a strong urge to urination, difficult urination, a feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder, weak urine stream, frequent night urination. Tamsulosin can significantly improve the patient’s state.
