US Food and Drug Administration approved  generic tamsulosin HCl 0.4 mg capsule (Impax Laboratories; Flomax, Astellas Pharma, distributor Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals).

Tamsulosin is currently marketed under the brand name Flomax.

Generic Tamsulosin is selective alpha-adrenergic blocker used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia – one of the most common urological disease among men over 40 years of age.

Tamsulosin generic belongs to a group of medicines called alpha blockers. Action mechanism is associated with blocking alpha-1 receptors. Alpha-1 receptors are located in different organs and systems including blood vessels and prostate gland. By blocking Alpha-1 receptors tamsulosin helps to relax prostate gland muscles and bladder neck. This helps to relieve the symptoms of enlarge prostate.

The symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia include: frequent urination accompanied by a strong urge to urination, difficult urination, a feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder, weak urine stream, frequent night urination. Tamsulosin can significantly improve the patient’s state.

Tamsulosin is taken once daily 30 minutes after meal. The recommended dose varies from 0.4-0.8 mg, 30 minutes after eating.
The most common Tamsulosin side effects include: dizziness, headache, orthostatic hypotension, increased heart rate, rarely – retrograde ejaculation.
