What is Lasix?

Lasix original is made by the pharmaceutical company Sanofi Aventis.

How does Lasix 40mg work?

Lasix contains Furosemide 40mg as an active ingredient. Furosemide is a fast-acting diuretic (medication that increase urine exrection)   Furosemide - a diuretic rapid-acting derivative of sulfonamide.
Furosemide action mechanism is associated with the blockade of reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions in the Henle's loop. Furosemide also increases the excretion of potassium, calcium and magnesium.
Furosemide acts on convoluted tubules, and this effect is not associated with inhibition of carbonic anhydrase or antialdosterone activity. Furosemide possesses a potent diuretic, natriuretic action.
After oral administration of Furosemide 40mg, therapeutic (diuretic) effect is observed within  the first hour and reaches its maximum within 1-2 houts. The duration of diuretic effect is 6-8 hours. By possessing diuretic effect Furosemide reduces systemic blood pressure.

Which are Lasix pharmakokinetics?

After oral administration the bioavailability of Furosemide is 64%. The value of the maximum drug concentration in plasma increases with increasing the dose. The half-life period is nearly 2 hours.
