Benzoyl Peroxide cream pharmacological action
Benzoyl Peroxide is a cream for the treatment of acne. Benzoyl peroxide exhibits antimicrobial activity against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. It has a keratolytic effect, improves the tissue oxygenation, suppresses the production of sebum in the sebaceous glands, helps accelerate the granulation of ulcers of the lower extremities.

Clinical indications

Benzoyl Peroxide cream is used in:

·         Acne vulgaris

·         Ulcers of the lower extremities of different genesis

Mode of administration

Benzoyl Peroxide is applied locally. For the treatment of acne,  a 5% gel is applied to affected skin once in 2-3 weeks., Then 10% cream should be used until the disappearance of cutaneous manifestations.

In the treatment of leg ulcers Benzoyl Peroxide cream is used with the imposition of two occlusive dressings for 2-3 weeks. The lotion is used for washing the affected areas 1-2 times daily until symptoms disappear.

Contraindications

Benzoyl Peroxide cream is contraindicated for use in:

·         Children under 12 years of age

·         Hypersensitivity to benzoyl peroxide

·         Breast-feeding

Use the cream with caution in pregnant women.

Benzoyl Peroxide cream side effects

The Benzoyl Peroxide cream adverse effects include:

·         Local irritation, allergic reactions

·         Contact dermatitis, exfoliation

·         Swelled and dry skin

·         Discoloration of hair

Drug interactions
