Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that acts bacteriostatically on microorganisms that cause acne: Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
Erythromycin interferes with protein synthesis on ribosomes (Palades's granule) of the bacterial cell, resulting in lowering of acne manifestations. As result, skin greasiness and the amount of whiteheads and blackheads is decreased. Zinc reduces the secretion of oil glands and possesses gently astringent action.
These properties make possible to exert efficient anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and comedolytic action.
