What is generic Alli (orlistat)?

Generic Alli
(Orlistat) is over-the-counter medication approved for weight loss and obesity treatment.  It belongs to a group of specific inhibitors of gastrointestinal lipases. Orlistat works by reducing the amount of calories which human organism receives with food. Alli capsules helps to decrease excessive body weight by increasing the elimination of lipids with faeces. Generic Alli Orlistat is indicated for the treatment of obesity and overweight in combination with healthy foods and physical exercises.

Alli (orlistat) belongs to a group of specific inhibitor of gastrointestinal lipases. Orlistat exerts its therapeutic action in the stomach and bowel. The action mechanism of Alli is associated with formation of covalent bonds with the active serine parts of gastric and pancreatic lipases. Inactivated ferments lose the ability to break down lipids entering in the form of triglycerides and monoglycerides, fatty acids. As a result Alli lowers the number of calories receiving with food (unsplit triglycerides are not absorbed in the blood circulation). Because less calories comes with food Alli helps to decrease excessive body weight.
Alli oral exerts its therapeutic action without absorption into the systemic circulation.
Xenical increases the concentration of fat in the stool in 24-48 hours after oral administration.

The recommended dose of Alli oral is one capsule 60 mg with fat meal. Alli should be taken during the meal or not later than 1 hour after meal. If a patient eats low lipid food, Orlistat dosage can be missed.
A patient should receive a balanced, moderately hypocaloric diet containing no more than 30% of lipids.
